Hello hobby nerds and plamo junkies! Been a long time, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been hobbying. I HAVE been working on fewer projects lately as my photography hobby is turning into more than just a hobby.
In addition to a little hobbying her and there, I have been playing some games on the weekends and torturing friends with my Craftworlds army. Sounds more like Dark Eldar, but that’s a story for another day…
The Mancave Realization
So recently I looked around my man cave (a.k.a. the Basement) and realized I just have too much shit. So many partially finished projects and projects that I say, “once I get… I’ll finish…” It’s gotten out of hand. From Orks and Necrons to a small Guard contingency, to Tau and Skaven to Convergence to… There’s a lot going on. I had to give myself a little tough love and decided I was going to keep and maintain only a few armies and I need to get rid of the rest. Whether I pack it all up in boxes and take them to my local game shop or just list them on Craigslist, they just need to be gone!
For 40K, I am keeping and maintaining my Craftworld Eldar and Dark Eldar.
My Dark Eldar has been sitting in a display case, unfinished for a few years now. At first it was waiting for inspiration to hit. Then once it hit I was paintbrush deep in trying to get another army finished for a game. Dark Eldar, for me, is a labor of love. It’s an all female army with an awesome but sinfully simple paint scheme. I am in need of a filigree stencil so I can add a little gold accent to the vehicles. I have been staring at that army a lot lately and would really like to take them out and give them a go. My main opponents are Space Wolves and Imperial Guard, which is not the best matchup for DE, but it’ll give my play group a little recess from my dominant Craftworlds army.
Another way I have been looking to tone down the power of the Craftworlds army is to add some new models in an attempt to change up the composition and strategy of the army. My aim is to make them a little more balanced to my opponent and not have them crushing armies in 2-3 turns as I have been doing. I am going to slow the army down a bit and make them more infantry-based.
But until that happens, Saim-Hann speediness it is!
I added some new models that will sport the red and black. I have never been a fan of the Vypers. I always liked the look of the Dark Eldar Venoms, but the Vypers suck aesthetically in my opinion. One model that I absolutely LOVE (I consider the model one of my top 2 Eldar favorites), and will replace my Vypers with, are Eldar Hornets. I LOVE this model! While the models are a tad larger than I thought they were, the style fits the current Craftworlds line and just looks amazing!
I spent some time glued to the Olympic games watching Ledecky and Phelps dominate their fields, with airbrush in hand. I picked up these models earlier this year and they have been sitting, but I finally made a small dent in my remaining Craftworlds models and I am super happy with how this is turning out.
Another model that I figured was time to make its debut is my Eldar Wraithknight. I have has th body of this model finished for quite some time, but I never decided to put the arms on. After working on the Hornets, I gave the Wraithknight a little love and finally gave it some arms and some weapons. I am going to mount it on knight-sized bases rather than the stupid 120mm base it comes with. The 190mm fits the model much better.
I decided to rebase my Eldar models, both Craftworld and Dark side armies on 32mm bases. The Space Marines look better on the larger bases and Eldar are considerably taller than what the Astartes are supposed to be. To keep the feet of the models from hanging off the edges of the scenic bases, I decided to go larger.
I picked up some resin scenic Craftworld bases for the Eldar, and I am torn between the Alien Temple bases from Secret Weapon Miniatures or going with the Desecrated Lands or the Necrose 13 bases from Dragonforge Designs for my Dark Eldar. Right now I am unsure…
In addition to the Craftworlds and Dark Eldar, I am going to keep and maintain AdMech and Space Marines. I have been all over the place with Space Marines, from Iron Warriors to Minotaurs to Iron Hands. I made a tough decision to get rid of it all and just have a Blackshield force. Not a large force. Just something to ally with the AdMech battleforce.
I have a Blackshield paint scheme that I worked up and I will reveal it after I get finished with the Craftworlds projects I have on my desk.
Now that Forgeworld has released updated rules and point values for Chaos Dwarfs, I am back to working to get them on the table.
Forgeworld also released a new character for Chaos Dwarfs, Shar’tor the Executioner. This guy is a pretty badass model and I look very forward to painting him up and adding him to my ranks of bull centaurs.
So that’s all I am working on at the moment. I am spending much of my time away from work working on my photography and preparing for Otakon. Kinda disappointed that I have not finished up a Gundam model for the Gundam Builders World Cup. Time got away from me and I decided to do everything BUT work on that. But, hey, my Chun Li is coming along…
